HGV Cleaning Specialist (Refrigerated Fleet)

About the Role
We are seeking a meticulous HGV Cleaning Specialist to maintain our fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles, including refrigerated units. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial vehicle cleaning, with particular attention to temperature-controlled units, and the ability to work efficiently while adhering to strict hygiene and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Exterior Cleaning:
- Thoroughly wash and degrease HGV cabs, trailers, and chassis using high-pressure systems.
- Pay special attention to refrigerated unit exteriors, ensuring no residue buildup on cooling systems.
- Clean and polish mirrors, windows, lights, and reflective markings for maximum visibility.
- Refrigerated Unit Cleaning:
- Deep clean and sanitize refrigerated cargo areas to meet food safety standards.
- Remove all food residues, odors, and biological contaminants using approved chemicals.
- Inspect and clean drainage channels to prevent blockages and bacterial growth.
- Report any issues with insulation, door seals, or refrigeration systems.
- Interior Cab Detailing:
- Clean and sanitize driver cabs, including seats, dashboards, and sleeping compartments.
- Vacuum and shampoo floor mats and upholstery.
- Wheel, Tyre & Undercarriage Care:
- Clean and degrease wheels, wheel arches, and undercarriages.
- Inspect for damage or excessive wear during cleaning process.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Follow strict food hygiene protocols when cleaning refrigerated units.
- Adhere to environmental regulations for chemical use and wastewater disposal.
- Maintain accurate cleaning records for each vehicle.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in HGV or refrigerated vehicle cleaning (preferred).
- Knowledge of food-safe cleaning chemicals and sanitization methods.
- Ability to work in cold environments when cleaning refrigerated units.
- Strong attention to detail to meet hygiene and food safety standards.
- Physical fitness to work with large vehicles and cleaning equipment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Food Hygiene Certification (e.g., Level 2) (optional).
- COSHH training (optional).
- Experience with steam cleaning systems (optional).
Work Environment:
- Depot-based with regular work in temperature-controlled environments.
- Use of PPE including thermal gloves, safety boots, and protective eyewear.
PAYE
- £13.96 – per hour 20 hours worked weekly
- £17.60 – per hour Over Time after 40 hours worked weekly
- £17.60 – 6th shift working
Minimum of 8 hours guaranteed per shift
Overtime payable after 40 hours worked
Shift start times available
- 06:00 – 16:00

- 10 hours per day, 20 hours per week
